The Invention of Marxism - a talk with Professor Christina Morina

Wednesday, October 30, 2019 - 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Professor Christina Morina will speak in a seminar sponsored by the European Caucus on Wednesday, October 30th at 4 pm in FSK 2110 on  “The Invention of Marxism. How an Idea Conquered the World”. This is the English title of a book published in Germany in 2017 but forthcoming in English. Here is the link to the Siedler Verlag edition, Die Erfindung des Marxismus: Wie eine Idee die Welt eroberte.:  https://www.randomhouse.de/Buch/Die-Erfindung-des-Marxismus/Christina-Morina/Siedler/e524540.rhd

The book is a collective biography of Marx's successors in Europe who made the doctrine a major political factor. They include: Victor Adler, Edward Bernstein,  Friedrich Engels,  Jules Guesde, Jean Jaures, Karl Kautsky, V.I. Lenin, Rosa Luxembourg, Georgi Plekanov, and Peter Struve.  It has been widely and favorably reviewed in Germany. It should be of interest to students working in intellectual history, European history and its interaction with other parts of the globe, and on the mixture of history and theory.
