Maryland Film Series: "Pecker"

History | Nathan and Jeanette Miller Center for Historical Studies Wednesday, May 10, 2017 3:00 pm Taliaferro Hall, 2118

Please join us for a screening and discussion of "Pecker," directed by John Waters and released in theaters in 1998. This is the last showing in the Miller Center's Spring 2017 Maryland Film Series from 3:00pm-5:00pm.

We close the Miller Center Maryland Film Series with Pecker (1998), John Waters’ satire of the absurd nature of celebrity and the world of high art at the close of the twentieth century. A young photographer in Hampden, Baltimore shoots low-stakes, personal work of the beloved oddballs around his neighborhood, when a New York art dealer notices some of his photographs by chance in the sandwich shop where he works. Swept into the New York high art scene, his celebrity status as an outsider artist frays his personal relationships and makes him long for his cherished Baltimore misfits.

Pizza and soda will be served. In order to help us estimate attendance, RSVP at millercenter@umd.edu or call at 301-405-4299.
