Professor Rubin will speak about her projected new edition of the single medieval English account of the case of William of Norwic.

Professor Rubin will speak about her projected new edition of the single medieval English account of the case of William of Norwich and on the accusation that the Jews ritually tortured and killed this young Christian boy. Historians have long argued over the events that led up to this first instance of the European Blood Libel accusation and to the boy’s reports canonization by the Catholic Church. 

Professor Miri Rubin (Ph.D., University of Cambridge, 1984) is one of the foremost English historians of religious culture in the Middle Ages, and appears frequently on BBC Radio and Television.  Her books include Corpus Christi: the Eucharist in Late Medieval Culture (1991), Mother of God: A History of the Virgin Mary (2009) and Gentile Tales. The Narrative Assault on Late Medieval Jews (1999).

Co-sponsored by the Miller Center for Historical Studies and the Meyerhoff Center for Jewish Studies. The lecture and discussion will also be videotaped and made available on the websites of those centers
