Restoration and British Empire Symposium

Restoration and British Empire Symposium

History Friday, April 29, 2016 8:30 am - 9:00 pm Tawes Hall, 2115

This symposium, which celebrates the move of the journal Restoration to the University of Maryland, explores the Restoration era’s significance in the creation of the British empire. Papers address theater, politics, literature, gender, war, sexuality, colonialism, dissent, religion, and the slave trade.

For purposes of the symposium we define the “Restoration” as roughly 1660-1688, but also will discuss the enduring effects of this period in later times, on other nations, and in all locations touched by this expanding empire. This symposium celebrates the move of the journal. We are honored to welcome Timothy Harris of Brown University as our keynote speaker.

Complete details about this event, including the program, are available at https://restorationandbritishimperialism.wordpress.com/

Co-sponsored by the departments of English and History at the University of Maryland.
