Rethinking the West in a Post-Cold War World

Taliaferro Hall, Room 2110
Tuesday, April 7, 2015 - 2:30 PM

Please join us for an afternoon conference on Rethinking the West in a Post-Cold War World

The Cold War period was marked by an inflamed rhetoric of difference.  East and West were portrayed as fundamentally opposed systems.  Not only government and economy, but culture itself were portrayed in terms of binary opposites.  The much celebrated “end” to the Cold War has taken away some of the pressures, and the justifications for such an approach.  Are we now at the point where we can rethink the West without being accused of supporting its enemies?

Join us as Professors Michael Kimmage (Catholic University), Marco Mariano (Piemonte Orientale), and Saverio Giovacchini (UMD) discuss the shift in thinking in both America and Europe.

Light refreshments will accompany the event.  Please RSVP to millercenter@umd.edu
