Easy access to research resources on campus and in the Washington DC area is one of the strongest assets of the East Asian program. The University library contains an excellent East Asian collection. The library is also home to the world-renowned Gordon W. Prage Collection of Print Publications in Occupied Japan (1945-1949). Each year, the Nathan and Jeanette Miller Center for Historical Studies offers two grants to scholars from all over the world to support their research in the Prange Collection. In addition, the National Archives and the Library of Congress both have impressive East Asian collections. The Department’s close ties with various East Asian institutions in the greater Washington metropolitan area provide for a stimulating learning environment.
