Arhu Professors Among 2017 Neh Grant Winners

English prof Zita Nunes and History prof Richard Bell awarded NEH grants.

Congratulations to Zita Nunes, associate professor of English and Richard Bell, associate professor of History who have both won grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

Zita Nunes was awarded $261,000 from NEH’s Scholarly Editions and Translations grants for her project “Digital Translation and Portuguese/English Edition of the Correio de Africa [Africa Mail] Newspaper, 1921–1924,” which explores “translation and preparation for publication of an open access bilingual edition of Correio de Africa [The Africa Mail], a newspaper published in Portugal from 1921 to 1924.”

Richard Bell received $50,400 for his project entitled, “Kidnapping and the Slave Trade in Post-Revolutionary America” in NEH’s Public Scholar Program. His project consists of “a book on four boys kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1825 and their story’s impact on debates about slavery and abolition.”
