Chiles writes article for the Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era
Dr. Rob Chiles has written an article for the Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era in which he discusses school reform and education policy in New York under Governor Alfred E. Smith.
In his article, Chiles discusses that in the Progressive Era, there had been connections between progressivism and education. Across the nation, movements, such as the settlement house movement and the progressive education movement, extended and rationalized public education. In New York, under Governor Alfred E. Smith, progressive education initiatives were similar to those of the rest of the country, but had an especially egalitarian and democratic path to them.
