EVENT DESCRIPTION

A Historical Detective at Work: Locating the Babyn Yar Massacre After 80 Years - A Presentation by Dr. Martin Dean, Researcher for the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center.
Shortly after the 80th anniversary of the massacre, Dr. Dean will reflect on his recent research, which attempts to unravel the complex history of the Babyn Yar ravine, where more than 33,000 Jewish men, women, and children were shot by units of the German SS and Police. By following evidence in the form of photographs, witness testimonies, maps, and aerial images, a new understanding of the historical landscape has emerged. With the aid of a 3-D model, the interrogations of German perpetrators, and testimonies from the few Jews who survived, the path they took can be reconstructed and the site of the mass shootings clearly identified. By seeking to answer key questions about the massacre, a wealth of new detail has been revealed.

Please register for the presentation by Dr. Martin Dean.
