Drawing on evidence presented in his recent book, Identifying with Nationality: Europeans, Ottomans, and Egyptians in Alexandria, Hanley will discuss how the concept of citizenry and nationaliy has evolved throughout history. In particular, Hanley will address the post-war world order that presumes every individual on earth is a citizen of a nation-state, leaving refugees, stateless persons, and the undocumented as societal problems to be solved. Will Hanley holds the position of Associate Professor at Florida State University.
