Marxist Thought and Soviet Culture in Early Cold War Japan
Anastasia Fedorova is a JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Hokkaido University, Slavic-Eurasian Research Center. She is currently affiliated with the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale University where she is working on expanding her doctoral thesis into a book manuscript. Her dissertation, “Japan’s Quest for Cinematic Realism from the Perspective of Cultural Dialogue between Japan and Soviet Russia, 1925-1955,” investigates how Japanese and Russian filmmakers, critics, and audiences interacted with each other through the medium of film. Dr. Fedorova’s research interests focus on Japanese film and media, montage theory, cross-cultural exchange and Marxist aesthetics in postwar Japan.
