Marable
Nyumburu Cultural Center
Wednesday, February 15, 2012 - 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM

The African American Studies Department will host a discussion on the book "Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention" by Department of History alumni Manning Marable.

The discussion will center on the following:

1) What would be Malcolm's analysis of the prison industrial complex or the New Jim Crow in the 21st century?
2) Comments on Manning Marable's book.
3) The role of women in Malcolm X's movement. Women have often been neglected in this discussion.
4) Aligning of similar philosophies/ideologies between Malcolm/MLK particularly towards MLK's death.
5) US Military Industrial Complex particularly in the Middle East and Africa.
6) President Obama's presidency.

The program will include statements from our illustrious panelists, a moderated discussion, and questions from our audience and conclude with light refreshments.

The program will be held in the Nyumburu Cultural Center from 2:00pm-3:30pm. The event is free and open to the University of Maryland campus community and the general public. For further information please contact Marci Deloatch at mdeloatc@umd.edu.

This program is sponsored by the African American Studies Department and co-sponsored by Consortium on Race, Gender and Ethnicity (CRGE).
