Professor Flack has published a monograph, a study of the intellectual community of Washington in the late nineteenth century, has co-authored a history of the District of Columbia, has edited The Records of the Columbia Historical Society of Washington, DC, and has acted as consulting editor to Washington at Home: An Illustrated History of Neighborhoods in the Nation's Capital. He has lectured widely on Washington, DC and has been a consultant on numerous projects, films, and conferences. His edition of the Records of the Columbia Historical Society won an Award of Merit from the American Association for State and Local History in 1989. He has been an editorial board member of the journal Washington History since 1989. He supervises the Internship Program of the Department of History, serves on the Committee on Historic Preservation, and is co-cordinator of the History/Library Science Program.
