Undergraduate Admissions

“Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it.” -Oscar Wilde

To apply to the University of Maryland, please visit the University Admissions website.

Students wishing to declare History as a major need to attend the History Majors workshop conducted by the History Advising Office. The advisors will go over the program, requirements, internships, study abroad, etc.  After the general information session the advisor meets with each student to plan a curriculum to meet their personal interests. The workshop lasts about 15-20 minutes, depending on how many students attend.

A program plan, approved by the advisor, should be filed with the Department of History Office of Undergraduate Studies as soon as possible. We recommended that students meet with an assigned advisor once every semester.

All Department of History majors are also required to complete requirements in the College of Arts and Humanities.

Contact the College of Arts and Humanities for advising on General Education (GEN ED) and College requirements.
