Courses

The Department of History at the University of Maryland offers numerous courses each semester across a wide range of historical periods, geographic areas, and thematic specialties.

The Department of History offers over 200 courses each year about the history of our world—past and present—with a focus on politics, culture, religion, identity, connections, migrations, science, technology, and the environment.

Courses for History Majors contain on average 25 students, allowing for discussion-centered, hands-on experiences. Courses for Graduate Students contain on average 15 or fewer students, providing opportunities for intensive reading, research, and writing, as well as interactive discussion.
