Current Students

Students in the Department of History at the University of Maryland have access to a range of online and in-person resources. Find helpful information regarding advising, curriculum requirements, declaring the History Major, and more listed below.

Students wishing to declare History as a major need to attend the History Majors Workshop held at the History Advising Office. The advisor will go over the program, requirements, internships, study abroad, etc.  After the general information session, the advisor meets with each student to plan a curriculum to meet his/her personal interests.  The workshop lasts about 15-20 minutes, depending on how many students attend.

An Undergraduate History Advisor assists each major in planning a curriculum to meet his or her personal interests. A "program plan," approved by the advisor, should be filed with the History Department as soon as possible. It is recommended that students meet with an assigned advisor once every semester or sign a waiver during registration.
