THE HISTORY DEPARTMENT: MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
Students are required to take a total of 39 credit hours in history [13 history courses] and 9 credit hours [3 courses] in non-history supporting courses.
HISTORY COURSES
[a] 12 hrs. of introductory courses in at least two regions;
[b] 15 hrs. in an Area of Concentration;
[c] 9 hrs. outside the Area of Concentration in at least two fields.
[d] 3 hrs. in a senior-level "capstone" course (HIST 408).
Within the above, students are required to take at least 3 credit hours [1 course] -- lower or upper level -- in a field outside U.S. and European history [see approved lists]. At least 21 credit hours [7 courses] must be at the 300-400 level. A minimum C- grade is required for all courses. A.P. and I.B. credits are accepted.
SUPPORTING COURSES
9 hours of upper level courses outside the history department. Courses should study some aspect of society and culture as taught by other disciplines, and should relate to the student's interests in history.
