Department of History’s Manning Marable wins Pulitzer Prize posthumously.

Manning Marable ’76 Ph.D. graduate of the Department of History, won the Pulitzer Prize in the category of Letters and Drama for his book, “Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention.”

The awards, in their 96th year, were announced on April 16th by the president of Columbia University on the recommendation of the Pulitzer Prize Board.

The board selected the book because of its “exploration of the legendary life and provocative views of one of the most significant African-Americans in U.S. history” and called it, “a work that separates fact from fiction and blends the heroic and tragic.”

Marable passed last April shortly before the book was published.
