Julie Greene and Katarina Keane win the 2026 Kirwan Awards!

Julie Greene and Katarina Keane were both named recipients of the University of Maryland's 2026 Kirwan Awards!

William E. Kirwan and Mrs. Kirwan established two annual faculty awards, the Kirwan Faculty Research and Scholarship Prize and the Kirwan Undergraduate Education Award. 

The Kirwan Faculty Research and Scholarship Prize recognizes a faculty member for a highly significant work of research, scholarship, or artistic creativity completed within the recent past. Julie Greene, the recipient of this award, is recognized for her achievements as a nationally and internationally renowned historian. Her scholarship, most specifically her recent book, Box 25, has illuminated the hidden stories of global migration.

The Kirwan Undergraduate Education Award recognizes faculty members who have made exceptional contributions to the quality of undergraduate education at the University. Katarina (Kate) Keane, the recipient of this award, is recognized for her "outstanding service to the Department of History as a lecturer, program developer, and Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies."

This prestigious award will be presented at the Campus Convocation in Fall 2026. Congratulations to Kate and Julie!
