Anne Rush

Anne Spry Rush has been teaching history at the University of Maryland, College Park since 2006. Her research interests include the nature of identity, culture, and society in the modern British Empire, the history of lawlessness worldwide, and post-1945 migration and immigration to North America.  Her courses include "Lawlessness: From Pirates to Body-Snatchers, Exploring the Legitimacy of Illicit Activity," "Empire! The British Imperial Experience," and "Oral History and Immigration" a class designed around interviewing immigrants to the Metro DC Area. Writings include her monograph Bonds of Empire. West Indians and Britishness from Victoria to Decolonization (Oxford University Press, 2011) and (with Charles Reed) the chapter "Imperial Citizenship in a British World" in the Routledge Handbook of Global Citizenship Studies (2014). Rush has served on the board of the Association for Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region (OHMAR) since 2012.
