Helyn Steppa
Research Expertise
Jewish History
Helyn Steppa received her BA in History from the University of Maryland in 2021. She is continuing her studies at UMD in the HiLS program with a focus on modern Jewish history and accessibility in higher education. Moving forward, she hopes to build on her undergraduate explorations of Jewish citizenship and identity politics in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Helyn is also passionate about building a better system to help disabled, neurodivergent, and other marginalized students succeed in higher education in ways that make all of academia a more humane, rigorous, and liberatory space. She is currently considering a career in academic librarianship, but is open to working in any number of contexts as an educator, researcher, and writer. In the rare moments when Helyn cannot be found reading or doing research you can probably find her baking, crafting, writing, or doing puzzles (both jigsaw and crossword).
