Kerry Tanner is a Ph.D. candidate who studies the relationship between film and public memory in the American West. His dissertation examines how localized nineteenth century disputes among the peoples of the American West influenced and were influenced by twentieth century Western films, becoming part of an international conversation through the technology of cinema. He is also interested in American sports history, and has taught courses on the use of films as historical sources and on American baseball history.
