History Friday, May 6, 2022 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Taliaferro Hall, 2110

Christine Kirchner, HiLS Program, University of Maryland  alumna, will give a talk titled

The Archives on the Moon: A Reflection on Digital Historical Research During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract:

Like going to the moon before 1969, doing historical research during a pandemic might seem impossible. As many students and researchers have found, however, it can be done. Even if it looks different from ‘traditional’ research, research with digital archives offers lessons that apply even to our work with their analog counterparts. This talk will offer a perspective on digital archival research during a pandemic and address aspects of the role of context in working with digital and physical archives.

Questions and discussion will follow the paper.
