In this moderated session, The History Department's Dr. Sarah Cameron will discuss her work on Central Asia's Aral Sea and Dr. Jayson Porter will discuss his work on racial ecologies in Mexico and the Americas.

They will consider how we can use environmental history to speak to audiences beyond the academy, as well as how this methodology can help us illuminate past patterns of injustice. Along the way, they will stress the common themes in their work, particularly their interest in the environmental effects  of cotton. Dr. Thomas Zeller will moderate the session.
