Advance Praise For Distinguished University Professor Art Eckstein New Book “Bad Moon Rising”

Professor Arthur Eckstein’s book, “Bad Moon Rising” has been reviewed by The Arts Fuse, Boston’s online arts magazine.

Eckstein’s new work presents a startling history of the forlorn war between the 60s Weather Underground and the FBI. Based on interviews and 30,000 pages of previously unreleased FBI documents from the summer of 1970 and the years following, this new book presents the ideologically driven, nationally coordinated violence of this powerful faction of the SDS. Eckstein further shows that the FBI ordered its informants inside Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) to support the faction that became Weather and how that faction ultimately outwitted them. Eckstein also reveals how an obsessed and panicked President Nixon and his inner circle sought to bypass a cautious J. Edgar Hoover, contributing to the creation of the rogue Plumbers Unit that eventually led to Watergate.

In an advanced review published in The Arts Fuse, Boston’s online arts magazine on October 24, 2015, noted author and Sixties activist Harvey Blume praises the book for opening up new insights into the actions of the period’s Radicals through a disciplined examination of the FBI’s voluminous files. Scores of books have been written on these themes, but Blume concludes that “Bad Moon Rising turns out to be justified by new evidence, some of which will be surprising to all concerned, while others definitively put old arguments to rest.”
