Discussion with Polish and Ukrainian Experts
On April 14, the Center for Global Migration Studies (CGMS) and the History Undergraduate Association (HUA), and JANUS the history undergraduate journal) at the University of Maryland held a panel about the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. Moderated by Piotr Kosicki, associate professor of History, and Chad Slater, (BA, 2022) editor-in-chief of JANUS, experts in Poland and in the Ukraine Zoomed into the panel.
Sofia Dyak, the director of the Center for Urban History who called in from Lyiv, Ukraine, has fortunately not been displaced from her home and work. But Dariya Orlova, a media researcher and senior lecturer at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy’s journalism school, along with her family had to leave Kyiv, where conditions are extremely dangerous.
Deputy Director of the Center for Eastern Studies in Warszawa, Wojciech Konończuk, spoke about Ukrainian refugees in Poland and the Polish government's response to the crisis.
