History Alum Ayah Nurridin Wins History of Medicine Award
Department of History Alum Ayah Nuriddin (HiLS 2014 Advisor Robyn Muncy) was awarded the Jack D. Pressman-Burroughs Wellcome Fund Early Career Development award at the 2024 American Association of the History of Medicine conference in Kansas City, MO. The award and stipend is awarded annually for outstanding work in 20th century history of medicine or biomedical sciences. The award is granted to scholars who have completed the PhD in the last five years and who have a proposal to turn the dissertation into a book. Nuriddin will use the award to help complete her eagerly awaited monograph project, currently titled "Seed and Soil: Black Eugenic Thought in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries," on Black eugenics.
Ayah Nuriddin holds the PhD from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, and is currently assistant professor in the History of Medicine section of the Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT.
