A former doctoral student of Professor Jon Sumida has just been named Chancellor of the North Dakota University System. Mark Hagerott (PhD, 2008) will begin a three-year term on July 1, 2015. Raised in North Dakota, Hagerott was a Rhodes Scholar and a White House Fellow. He also served as an officer in Afghanistan from 2009 to 2010.  Hagerott currently serves as a deputy director and distinguished professor at the Naval Academy Center for Cyber Security Studies. His dissertation was entitled Commanding Men and Machines: Admiralship, Technology, and Ideology in the 20the century U.S. Navy.
