Herf has discussed his book Undeclared Wars with Israel: East Germany and the West German Far Left 1967-1989 in an interview with Alan Johnson, editor of Fathom Journal in London.

In the interview, Herf explains why it was important for him to write his work as well as what influenced him to create Undeclared Wars with Israel. He also describes the various themes included in his book to Johnson and how they have implicated current events in Britain and elsewhere.
