Jonathan W. White UMD Alumni Excellence Award in Research

Jonathan W. White (PhD, 2008 Advisor: Herman Belz) has been named as a recipient of a University of Maryland Alumni Excellence Award. Jonathan receives the Excellence Award for Research which recognizes transformational research and its impact. He is the author and/or editor of 13 books, most recently Shipwrecked: A True Civil War Story of Mutinies, Jailbreaks, Blockade-Running, and the Slave Trade (Rowman & Littlefield, 2023). He has also writeen more than 100 articles, essays, and reviews. Jonathan has also been recieved a number of  awards recognizing his work in the history of the US civil war, slavery, and emancipation. Read more about the Award in Terp magazine, Winter 2024 HERE.
