Richard Bell Elected Fellow Of The Royal Historical Society

Richard Bell, a specialist in the history of the early United States, has recently been elected as Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and two other prominent learned societies. 

Founded by royal charter in 1868, the Royal Historical Society (http://royalhistsoc.org), based in London, is a learned society dedicated to advancing the study of history in the United Kingdom and across the world. Bell has also recently been elected a member of the Colonial Society of Massachusetts. Founded in Boston in 1892, membership of the Colonial Society was originally limited only to descendants of the original Massachusetts Bay or Plymouth settlers. Its members now comprise a learned society committed to the study of New England history and culture.

This past summer, Bell was also elected to the Board of Trustees of the Maryland Historical Society (http://www.mdhs.org/about/board-trustees). The oldest cultural institution in the state, the Maryland Historical Society traces its origins to 1844. Its campus in downtown Baltimore covers an entire city block and includes a major museum, a research library and educational facilities. Bell is the only professional historian to serve on the Society’s Board.
