Historian Robert Chiles talked about his book, The Revolution of '28: Al Smith, American Progressivism, and the Coming of the New Deal. Professor Chiles argued that although 1928 Democratic presidential nominee Smith lost to Republican Herbert Hoover, his progressive coalition helped shape a new liberal agenda for the Democratic Party, paving the way for the New Deal policies of the Franklin Roosevelt administration. Goucher College in Towson, Maryland, hosted this event.
