"Slavery, Freedom, and Memory in Maryland" MCHC teaching institute meets this weekweek.
The Maryland Center for History and Culture and the University of Maryland Department of History are offering a week-long summer institute for teachers July 26-30, 2021 on "Slavery, Freedom, and Memory in Maryland." Richard Bell is coordinating the institute and Elsa Barkley-Brown and Chris Bonner are featured speakers. From the MCHC website: "Participants will explore topics including the freedom, citizenship, and memory of African American Marylanders during the antebellum, Civil War, and Reconstruction periods, as well as the Jim Crow-era legal battles that continued into the early 20th century."
