An introduction to the literature, history, and culture of Jews in the period between the sixth century BCE and the second century CE. This era saw the creation and destruction of an independent Judean state and an extensive diaspora, the origins of "Judaism" as well as Christianity as we now know it, and significant religious and political sectarianism.
